Habit: Nodding onion is a long-lived 12 to 18” tall plant with slender grass like leaves.
It thrives in any moderate to rich soil but can readily tolerate dryer conditions of prairies,
open woods and rocky outcrops. The lilac pink flower heads are produced in late summer
and attract various species of bees for pollination. It can be propagated from bulb offshoots
and from the numerous tiny black seeds that readily germinate.
All parts of the plants exhibit an onion like odor that deters browsing by deer and rabbits.
